If you've ever watched your cat ignore a fresh bowl of water and then go drink from the tap, you're not imagining it. Cats evolved as desert hunters and instinctively avoid stagnant water โ in the wild, still water often meant contaminated water.
A fountain solves three problems at once: the movement attracts them, the filtration keeps it clean, and the cooler temperature is more appealing. Studies show cats drink 30โ50% more from fountains than from bowls.
Introducing one takes patience. Leave it off for the first day so your cat investigates without being startled. Turn it on at the lowest flow on day two. Most cats accept it within a week.
Maintenance tip: replace the carbon filter every 3โ4 weeks and wash the pump monthly. A neglected fountain becomes a slime farm fast.
