Building a healthy pet routine when you work from home

Your pet has a new schedule too. Here's how to balance attention, rest, and stimulation in a remote-work day.

Working from home changed our pets' lives more than it changed ours. The constant company is wonderful โ€” until you have to travel or return to the office. The transition can trigger anxiety, destructive behavior, and weight gain from inconsistent feeding.

Treat your pet's day like you'd treat a child's: predictable meal times, scheduled play sessions, and protected rest periods. Don't let availability replace structure.

Use technology to maintain consistency. An automatic feeder keeps meals on time even on your busiest days. A camera lets you check in without breaking your pet's nap. Interactive toys provide enrichment when you're in back-to-back meetings.

Practice short separations even when you don't need to. Walk to the corner store without your dog. Close the office door for an hour. These small absences build resilience for the days you really do have to leave.
